The Australian Curriculum in HPE is due for implementation
in 2016. It is proposed that this curriculum will comprise two major strands:
Personal, social and community health;
Movement and physical activity.
All students from Prep to Year 4 engage in a 40 minute
lesson each week with our specialist HPE teacher in this learning area.
Students in Years 5 and 6 have a 30 minute weekly lesson.
The Arts Curriculum is also due for implementation on 2016.
It is proposed that this curriculum will comprise the following strands:
All students from Prep to Year 4
engage in a 40 minute lesson each week with our specialist Music teacher in
this learning area. Students in Years 5 and 6 have a 30 minute weekly lesson.
We also have a school choir which participates with great success each year in
the Wynnum Eisteddfod and Catholic Colleges Music Festival. Our choir also
performs at various functions and events throughout the year.
Instrumental Music tuition is provided in a range of instruments by
Musicorp. Parents enter directly into a private arrangement with instructors
from this company.
All students from Prep to Year 4 engage
in a 40 minute Drama lesson with our Drama specialist each week. Class teachers
in Years 5 and 6 undertake this strand of The Arts Curriculum in class.
This strand of The Arts
Curriculum is catered for through the engagement of a private provider, ‘The Dance Cart. This company employs
registered teachers to implement a Dance program for all students from Prep to
Year 6. Lessons culminate in a performance at the conclusion of the term in
which lessons take place.
These two strands will be
implemented by the classroom teacher from Prep to Year 6.
Currently Japanese is taught to
students in Years 5 and 6 for 1.5 hours per week.
Swimming lessons are conducted in Term 1 for
students in Years 1-2. Inter-school Friday afternoon competition is available
to all students from Years 5 and 6. Student interest determines sports
undertaken. Students in Year 4 currently participate in an inter-house
competition on Friday afternoons.
All students compete in athletics competition and
