South East Queensland Football Finals

Our Senior Girls' Soccer Team participated in the South East Queensland Football Finals after qualify-ing by winning the Met East Title. This competition brings together the top six teams in an area from the NSW border, up to Hervey Bay and out to Toowoomba. In an exceptional effort, our girls made it through to the final and went on to win the competition, making them the best Primary School team in South East Queensland.

Our first game was against Warrigal State School and involved an early start out near Ipswich at the Western Pride Football Club. We played extremely well in this game and secured a 2 – 1 victory.

After a short break, we backed up for our second game against Saint Vincent's Primary School from the South Coast region. This game proved to be a little tougher. We had several chances that just missed or were well saved by their goal keeper and came away from this game with a 1 – 1 draw. This meant that we had to wait for the results of another game to see if we won our pool and made it through to the final. Things went our way and we were lucky enough to make it through to the final.

The final proved to be an extremely close game, where we played Ferny Grove State School from Metro North district. We had several chances but again just missed or had our shots on goal saved. They had a couple of highly skilled players and they combined together to break away and score the first goal against us. Just before half time, we were able to score a long range goal to even up the score. Following a close second half, the game went to extra time. This involved a golden goal rule, where the first goal would win the game. From the kick off we ran through and had a shot that just went outside the post. Over the next couple of minutes, our team dominated the game until a beautiful shot went sailing past their goal keeper to give us the win.

The girls played with courage, respect and determination and are to be congratulated for their outstanding achievement and the manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the entire season. As a school, we are extremely proud of all that they have achieved and hope to see some of them staring on a bigger stage in the years to come.
